Well, folks, I know the election was a couple of weeks ago, but it has literally taken this long to recover! It was a lot of work, and we just weren’t sure where we’d end up, but the people of Florida overwhelmingly voted to end greyhound racing in our state.
So, now comes the hardest part. Most tracks have announced that they will continue racing until the end of 2020, so we do not expect to see large numbers of dogs becoming available within the next few weeks. The racing industry and pro racing groups have emphatically stated that it is their goal to ensure that no anti racing group or individual will ever get another dog from the industry. We understand that they are very angry, and we are not surprised by these statements. In the end, it is individual owners and trainers who will decide where their dogs will go, and we believe that eventually they will need to take the help that is available to them for their dogs, regardless of the political stance. We will keep you all posted as to when and if we will have greyhounds available.
In the meantime, we are excited to let you know that we are going to be helping Anima Macau in getting the Canidrome dogs moved to adoption! This wonderful organization in China has been working with the racing industry in Macau, as well as the government, to take care of the hundreds of dogs that have been displaced by the closing of the Canidrome (widely known as an absolute terrible place for any dog to end up at). We expect to receive 5 initially, within the next few weeks and we will let you know as soon as this is firmed up! If you are interested in fostering one of these sweet dogs, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org!
